Free Microsoft software via DreamSpark

Log into the University portal http://portal.gre.ac.uk/ with your University of Greenwich computer ID e.g. in format: za000 and password. Go to the Library & Computing tab and select the Databases, Journals and e-books link. On the next screen enter a resource from the list e.g. IEEEXplore IET Library so that you are authenticated.

Next steps:

1. Navigate to http://www.dreamspark.com/ in another window or tab

2. Sign in with your unverified Windows Live ID (create one if you haven't already at www.live.com/).

3. Click on "Get Verified" on the left.

4. Click on "Verify as a Student".

5. Click on "Get Verified through my school".

6. Select country "United Kingdom".

You can view your school "University of Greenwich" in the list. Log in with your University of Greenwich computer ID and password to complete the verification process.

Unidays student discount verification

To register for student discounts on the Unidays site first make sure you are authenticated in an e-resource in the portal.

• Select the My Learning page
  In the Search the Library portlet select Online databases and academic journals
  
  On the next page the e-resources are arranged alphabetically by title
• Select a resource to log into e.g. Academic Search Premier.
• Navigate to the search screen

You are now authenticated. Keep this tab in your browser open. 

Open a new tab in your web browser. Go to: https://www.myunidays.com/ and follow the instructions from the Join Now link. Make sure you use your Greenwich student email address when you register. If you use a personal email account you cannot be verified as a student.

Digimap Carto issues

EDINA Digimap have provided guidance for users experiencing issues with Digimap Carto:

"Following recent changes to popular web browsers and updates to Java installations some users have experienced difficulties using Carto. We understand that there have also been some instances of problems with Carto working on the latest 64-bit versions of operating systems (mostly Windows 7).

Many of these problems are now beyond our control. However, we are currently looking for workaround solutions wherever possible.

Given these recent changes, we regret that we are no longer able to continue development on the platform used by Carto.  Instead, we will be developing a replacement advanced mapping service.

Carto will continue to be available until its replacement is complete, but we cannot guarantee that it will continue to function with the latest updates to your internet browser and to your Java installation.

We would strongly suggest you try Roam if Carto fails to operate as expected.

Digimap Roam offers the majority of functionality available in Carto and some extra functions.  Roam can print at A3 and A4, portrait and landscape, add annotations and labels to your map and measure distances and areas".
